Browser Extension Privacy Notice

This notice covers the CompanyTrack browser extension for Chrome. The companytrack.com website and our API are covered separately by our main privacy policy.
The short version
The extension does not collect anything. It makes no network requests of its own, has no account or API key, and contains no analytics or tracking code. Everything it does happens on your own device until you click a link, at which point your browser visits companytrack.com the same way it would if you had typed the address yourself.
What the extension reads, and why
Companies House pages
On find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk, the extension reads the
company name and registration number already displayed on the page, and the company and
officer names in search and officer lists. It uses them to build links to the matching records
on companytrack.com. This happens in your browser. Nothing that is read is stored or sent
anywhere.
The page you are reading, when you ask
If you click "Find company numbers on this page" in the extension's popup, it reads the text of that one page to locate UK company registration numbers and turn them into links. This runs only on that click, only on that tab, and Chrome revokes the access when you navigate away. The extension does not read any page automatically apart from Companies House.
Text you select
If you use the right-click menu, the text you selected is placed into a companytrack.com search URL and opened in a tab. It is not sent anywhere else.
What you type in the popup or the address bar
Used to build the URL that is then opened. There is no autocomplete, so nothing is transmitted while you type.
What is stored
Your last eight lookups — the label and the URL — are kept in Chrome's local storage on your
own computer, so the popup can list them. They are stored with chrome.storage.local, which does not sync to any server, and they are never transmitted. You can delete them at
any time with the Clear button in the popup, and uninstalling the extension
removes them.
The extension stores nothing else. No identifiers, no history, no page content.
What is not collected
No personally identifiable information, authentication information, financial information, personal communications, location, health information, browsing history, or records of what you do in the browser. Nothing is sold or shared with third parties. Nothing is used for advertising, creditworthiness assessment or lending.
When you click a link
Clicking a link in the extension opens companytrack.com in a tab. From that point you are on the website, and the website's own privacy policy applies. The extension does not add identifiers to those links or tell the site that you arrived from the extension.

The extension declares no broad host permissions. It cannot read any site other than Companies House, except the single page you point the scan button at.

Changes
